This Friday, we will finally see some footage from the epic new movie Warcraft based on Blizzard Entertainment’s game series of the same name when the trailer drops. In the meantime, Universal and Legendary have released a new poster for the film. Check it out here below.
While the movie itself won’t be out until June 2016, there is a lot of anticipation as a Warcraft game/movie crossover has been in the works for a very long time. Fans have been anxious for months now to see how ILM and director Duncan Jones will bring the rich fantasy world to life. This despite Universal Studios reportedly being nervous about the film after a mediocre response at SDCC 2015. With the trailer, we can finally see the Horde axes crushing down some Alliance shields (hopefully). Perhaps then the Universal won’t be as nervous.
With 2016 shaping up to another year of massive tentpole fare with Batman vs Superman, Suicide Squad, and Captain America: Civil War all coming at us next year: Can Warcraft still hope to draw fans to the theater? The game series that inspires the film was one of Blizzard’s first game success stories spanning the course of 20-plus years. What began as Warcraft: Orcs & Humans on MS-DOS in 1994 and carrying on today as World of Warcraft, is one of the biggest success stories in all of the video gaming industry. World of Warcraft (despite losing some of its subscribers over time) remains one of the most popular online games in the world.
Official Synopsis:
From Legendary Pictures and Universal Pictures comes Warcraft, an epic adventure of world-colliding conflict based on Blizzard Entertainment’s global phenomenon.
The peaceful realm of Azeroth stands on the brink fo war as its civilization faces a fearsome race of invaders: orc warriors feeling their dying home to colonize another. As a portal opens to connect the two worlds, one army faces destruction and the other faces extinction. From opposing sides, two heroes are set on a collision course that will decide the fate of their family, their people, and their home. So begins a spectacular saga of power and sacrifice in which war has many faces, and everyone fights for something.
Directed by Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) and written by Charles Leavitt and Jones, the film starring Travis Fimmel, Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Toby Kebbell, Ben Schnetzer, Rob Kazinzky and Daniel Wu is a Legendary Pictures, Blizzard Entertainment, and Atlas Entertainment production.

My understanding from other reports is that this is new as it will have finished visual FX where previous ones didn’t …not even the SDCC footage.
