It’s a very Radwell Thanksgiving on Scream Queens! Chad (Glen Powell) has invited Chanel (Emma Roberts) to his family compound for the holiday, which we promised last week was haunted, with furniture that occasionally screams and bleeds. Last week, Boone (Nick Jonas) returned from the dead, but that was short lived as his twin Red Devil turned on him and sided with Gigi (Nasim Pedrad), the mastermind of all this revenge and bloodshed. We know that the second Red Devil is a female… so who is it? Is it one of the Chanels, perhaps #3 (Billie Lourd) who claims to be the spawn of Charles Manson… or #5 (Abigail Breslin) who has somehow managed to escape death more than once. Is it someone, who like Boone, was thought to be long dead, like Chanel #2 (Ariana Grande)? We’re getting close to the end of the season, and one of the best things I can say is I have no clue who the other Devil is. Compared to MTV’s summer slasher series Scream, where I figured out the exact killer in literally the second episode. So kudos to creators Brad, Ian, and Ryan for keeping me on my toes.
Spoilers below.
Chanel confesses her murder of Hester (Lea Michele) to Chad Radwell as way to strengthen their relationship, but he’s more turned on by the dead body in the house. He is so weird; everyone on this show is so damn weird! When Chanel takes to the meat locker, “where we put ALL the bodies,” it’s gone. “How does this keep happening? Is this meat locker like a wormhole to an alternate universe?” Chad tells her to watch her back before psycho Hester tries to off her.
Chanel # 3 returns home to her microwave meal millionaire family. She compares her family gatherings to Tinder, everything looks great until you show up where everything is fatter and you just feel ashamed of yourself. She retreats to campus where Dean Munsch (Jamie Lee Curtis) is prepping a freshly decapitated turkey for dinner. Turns out Kappa House will host a holiday meal. Speaking of hosting family meals – RADWELL FAMILY… Alan Thicke, Julia Duffy, Patrick Schwarzenegger (Thad, who is thankful for lax laws in Eastern Europe which allow for copious amounts of porn), Chad Michael Murray (Brad), and of course Chad, who is thankful to the serial killer for not killing him. And then… Hester shows up! Julia Duffy steals this scene, not wanting either Chanel or Hester to ruin her family family name.
At Kappa, Munsch leads the rag-tag gang in pre-dinner games. First one, Guess the Red Devil? Munsch calls out Chanel #3 because of her “real” Dad. Her response, “No, I’ve never killed anyone, that I know of.” Chanel #3 hits right back. Munsch hates Kappa, always has, and that’s motive. She knows the original story from 20-years earlier, and got caught eating a bologna sandwich, her alibi in the frame up for her husband’s murder was that she couldn’t eat bologna. If the Radwell scenes are like a A&E show about millionaire families, then the Kappa party is like Clue. Wes (Oliver Hudson) accuses his own daughter, Pete (Diego Boneta) shows up to accuse Wes. If only the turkey cooked faster, everyone might be less focused on guessing the killer. No one accused Chanel #5 or Zayday (Keke Palmer) by the way… suspicious. Pete’s evidence against Wes includes the bombshell that he was actually Boone’s and by definition the female Red Devil’s father. “I was a bit of a man-slut,” he responds.
Chanel and Hester arrive back after a final blow up at the Radwells and it’s finally time for Kappa Thanksgiving dinner, complete with Hester sharpening the knife to “cut through flesh.” Of course when the turkey is revealed… it’s Gigi’s severed head… did NOT see that one coming.
I gotta hand it to the Falchuk/Murphy/Brennan trio as I have no clue who the killer is with only two episodes remaining. Chanel and Hester were at the Radwells. Grace, Zayday, #3, and Munsch were at Kappa. The not-so-dead Chanel #2 theory can be a play… or Abigail Breslin is playing the Claudius card, acting like a loser in plain sight, while secretly plotting bigger things. I’m excited for the final 2 episodes. Next week, The Chanels are locked in the mall with the Red Devil and it’s on. I loved the duality of this episode, between the playful mean spiritedness of the Radwell estate, and the “Who dunnit?” Scooby Doo vibe in the Kappa House.
Only two episodes left! Scream Queens returns next Tuesday night at 9:00 ET on FOX.
