20th Century Fox has released the first trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse starring James McAvoy (Victor Frankenstein), Michael Fassbender (Macbeth), and Jennifer Lawrence (Joy), all of whom will reprise their roles as Professor X, Magneto, and Mystique, respectively. Oscar Isaac (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) stars as the titular villain. Directed by Bryan Singer, the film marks the end of the First Class Trilogy.
In the film, En Sabah Nur is considered the very first mutant of human civilization. Worshiped as a god, the immortal mutant has a collection of powers that no single mutant can stop. After millennia of slumber, Apocalypse will awaken, disappointed in the state of the world. He recruits four of the most powerful mutants he can find, which includes a demoralized Magneto, to create a new mutant world order. Now, the X-Men must ally themselves with former enemies to stop Apocalypse from succeeding with this plan. Check out the first trailer for X-Men: Apocalypse here below.
Like most of these summer blockbuster trailers, much of the footage seen was already previewed at the San Diego Comic-Con. But for those who just read the previews and description of clips, this would be the first time you get to see what we saw earlier this summer.
However, it appears that we are getting to see some real heavy mutant power action, more than we did at Comic-Con. Just because X-Men: Days Of Future Past reset the X-Men film franchise timeline, don’t expect to see Professor X change his views on colorful and diverse uniforms.
X-Men: Apocalypse also stars Olivia Munn (The Newsroom) as Psylocke, Sophie Turner (Game Of Thrones) as Jean Grey, Nicholas Hoult (Mad Max: Fury Road) as Beast, Tye Sheridan (Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse) as Cyclops, Kodi Smit-McPhee (Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes) as Nightcrawler, Alexandra Shipp (Straight Outta Compton) as Storm, and newcomer Lana Condor as Jubilee. Returning cast includes Rose Byrne (Spy) as Moira MacTaggert, Evan Peters (American Horror Story) as Quicksilver, and Lucas Till (Stoker) as Havok.
The film opens in theaters on May 27, 2016.
Here’s the official synopsis,
“Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.”
