X-Men: Apocalypse Jean Grey

Despite an underwhelming box office performance, Fox continues to move forward with their X-Men franchise. Logan looks to be very promising, and Deadpool 2 is currently in the works. But the future of the main X-Men saga is still not clear. The sequel currently has no director tapped for the helm. But even with no creative heads are in place yet, Sophie Turner, who played Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse, says that the next film is expected to start shooting this year.

X-Men Dark Phoenix

After exploring major events through respective decades on Earth, the next X-Men film, which is said to take place during the 1990s, could take the mutant superheroes to a place where no X-Men has gone before: space.

Bryan Singer, who is still on the X-Men: Apocalypse promotional tour – read our review of the film here – has talked a little bit about where the sequel could go. Given that First Class took place in the 60s, Days Of Future Past in the 70s, and Apocalypse in the 80s, obviously the 90s would be that next logical choice. But it should be interesting what major event of that decade the film decides to use to move the plot, but if what Singer says is true, then it’s quite possible that the X-Men could find themselves in the final frontier dealing and contending with a force unlike anything they have ever seen before. “Mutation: it is the key to our evolution. It has enabled us to evolve from a single-celled organism into the dominant species on the planet. This process is slow, and normally taking thousands and thousands of years. But every few hundred millennia, evolution leaps forward.”

If there’s one thing director Bryan Singer achieves with X-Men: Apocalypse, it’s channeling the excess and indulgence of the 1980s. The ninth installment in the X-Men series has too much of everything, including thinly written characters, stale end-of-the-world scenarios, and overblown CGI annihilation.

X-Men

Since the release of X-Men: First Class, each installment of the X-Men film franchise has taken place in key moments in recent history. First Class took place during the Cuban Missile Crisis during the 1960s, Days Of Future Past occurred during the early 1970s, and Apocalypse will be during the 1980s. So it only seems fitting that the next X-Men film follows that theme by taking place in the 1990s, and that is what producer Simon Kinberg is confirming. More on the story here below.

X-Men: Apocalypse starring Olivia Munn

20th Century Fox’s X-Men film universe is their comic-book shared universe flagship. Two successful film franchises have come out of its success, with another one titled New Mutants, from director Josh Boone, to come. Since Deadpool‘s success at the box office, fans have expressed their interest in seeing more R-rated comic book film adaptations. Even star Ryan Reynolds wanted to see an R-rated version of the X-Force, which sees notable X-Men teammates like Deadpool, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Archangel, and Psylocke unite to take a more proactive stance against threats to mutant kind. Most of these characters will appear in the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse. And that brings us to Olivia Munn, who is now talking about how she turned down a role to be in Deadpool and ended up being in Apocalypse. More on the story below.
