Like most of the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there are either loose or strong links to all the films no matter if they are based on Earth, Asgard, or far away galaxies. Whether these connections come in the form of Macguffins or just subtle nods, they are a representation of how expansive the MCU is as a whole. And like most of these films, they are some sort of genre. Iron Man was a buddy cop film, Captain America is a political thriller, Thor a fantastical film, Ant-Man being heists, and Guardians of the Galaxy a space opera.

It’s not clear what we will see in Phase 3 of the MCU, but all of the films will culminate with the two-part Avengers: Infinity War. Phase 3 will also introduce new characters like Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman), who will make his MCU debut in Captain America: Civil War before starring in his own titular film.

But Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is now talking a little bit about what Black Panther will be, and how it links to Avengers: Infinity War. More on the story below.

Speaking to Empire (via CBM), Feige had this to say about the Ryan Coogler-directed film:

Feige also says that the film will primarily have a “primarily African-American cast.”

He also addressed the themes of the upcoming film, and how it would act as a link to the next Avengers films:

So basically there will be another Infinity Stone involved. Whether it will be the Time Stone or the Soul Stone remains to be seen. Your guess is as good as ours.

Boseman, who is the only one cast so far, will star as the title character. There is word that Ernie Hudson could play T’Challa’s father, T’Chaka. Andy Serkis is rumored to reprise his role as Ulysses Klaue.

Marvel Studios has scheduled Black Panther for a February 16, 2018 release.
