The Secret Life Of Pets trailer image

Universal Pictures has just released the newest trailer for Illumination Entertainment’s upcoming animated film The Secret Life of Pets. Featuring the voices of Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Jenny Slate, and Bobby Moynihan as Manhattan pets who, as the title suggests, live a secret life while their owners are gone.

But the latest trailer reveals that there is a little bit more to the plot than what the title reads. Check out the latest trailer for The Secret Life of Pets below.

Based on the trailer, see a once happy terrier named Max (C.K) feel neglected when his owner bring in a large sloppy mongrel named Duke (Stonestreet). However, when Duke’s wild antics result in him and Max being taken to the pound, it’s up to them to put their differences aside to find a way back home.

It’s hard not to see the film drawing inspiration from Toy Story, but instead of toys it’s our pets or other talking animal films like Homeward Bound. In fact, if the film is a huge success, I could see these same animals causing all sorts of trouble in sequels and spinoffs that see the owners take their pets on vacation or even to the vet.

Snowball (Hart), is an adorable bunny who leads the Flushed Pets, a pack of animals seeking revenge on humans and their beloved pets. Meanwhile Gidget (Slate), a very courageous Pomeranian, rallies her friends: Chloe (Bell), a feline who is very fond of food, Mel (Moynihan), a tiny pug, and others to help find Max and Duke.

While Illumination Entertainment is better known for their Despicable Me films and its spinoff Minions, I’m sure they can bring in a quality animated film that doesn’t feature walking yellow pills wearing overalls. Looking at the comedic talent involved, I think that this will be something worth watching.

Directed by Chris Renaud and Yarrow Cheney, the film also features the voices of Hannibal Buress, Dana Carvey, Steve Coogan, and Albert Brooks.

Here’s the official plot:

For their fifth fully-animated feature-film collaboration, Illumination Entertainment and Universal Pictures present The Secret Life of Pets, a comedy about the lives our pets lead after we leave for work or school each day.

Comedy superstars Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet and Kevin Hart make their animated feature-film debuts in The Secret Life of Pets, which co-stars Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Jenny Slate, Bobby Moynihan, Hannibal Buress and Albert Brooks. Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri and his longtime collaborator Janet Healy produce the film directed by Chris Renaud (Despicable Me, Despicable Me 2), co-directed by Yarrow Cheney and written by Brian Lynch and Cinco Paul & Ken Daurio.
