Fox Pulls ‘Gambit’ Release Date, But Schedules Two More Marvel Titles

Gambit

With the long-gestating Gambit still very early in the pre-production process, and an official start date to begin later next month, it started to look like the X-Men spinoff was unlikely to make its October release date.

Now, a new report confirms that Fox has pulled the film from its original scheduled release date. However, the studio has also announced two mysterious Marvel titles.

So let the speculation begin below.

BoxOffice.com posted the confirmation this weekend on their official Twitter account. We are also learning that since Gambit‘s date has been pulled, the studio has not given it a replacement yet. It isn’t exactly clear when the film could be released, but the reason for the pull stems from its storied delays. Last year, after he made a brief appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, there were rumors that lead star Channing Tatum was going to drop out of the project, after he was championed for the role by producer Laura Shuler Donner. However, Tatum would end up signing on by negotiating a new deal. Then a new problem emerged. In September of last year, Rupert Wyatt dropped out, leaving the film without a director. Wyatt cited creative differences as the reason why he walked away from the project. A month later, Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman was confirmed for the film, with a production start date of March.

Assuming one of those titles is Gambit, it is likely that the X-Men spinoff would be given the October 2017 release, which is an entire year after its originally scheduled release date. This would give more time for everyone in the creative process to perfect the film from its script right down to the effects. Again, this is just pure speculation, and we’ll just have to wait and see if Gambit will even be released in October of next year.

As for that other Marvel release date, that is very much a mystery. But let’s face it, Fox has proven that the early months of the year can no longer be considered a dumping ground. Normally, subpar or dull films are released at that time. But Deadpool (a film released by Fox) has proven to be an exception to that rule. And if that is indeed the case, then it might be in Fox’s best interest to just insert Deadpool 2 in the January slot. Of course, with Ryan Reynolds hoping to see an X-Force film come to be, there is a chance that we could see that film be released at that date. Again, it’s just another wait and see.
