‘Edge Of Tomorrow’ Sequel In Development; Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise Expected To Return

An Edge Of Tomorrow sequel (or is it a prequel) is something that has been in the works for quite some time. And it seems fitting that we would be experiencing deja vu for a film that centered on that idea. Every time news on it comes up, it seems to be the same thing. But in this latest bit of news, it seems like Warner Bros. is preparing the project to take the next step.
According to new reports, the follow-up is heading towards active development, and stars Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt are expected to reprise their respective roles with director Doug Liman returning to the helm. More on the report here below.

Watch The Official Trailer For ‘American Made’ Starring Tom Cruise

Later this week the first movie in Universal’s shared Dark Universe franchise kicks off with The Mummy. Tom Cruise stars in the movie, but it’s not the only thing you’ll see him in this year. Releasing this fall is another Universal title starring Cruise, American Made.
In the movie Cruise plays a pilot who partakes in work of questionable legality, which leads to him being recruited by much bigger and more powerful employers. If a Top Gun 2 wasn’t already in the works, you could picture this as a sequel mixed with a bit of Blow starring Johnny Depp, who’s also part of Universal’s Dark Universe as The Invisible Man. The movie is directed by Doug Liman, who worked with Cruise on Edge of Tomorrow. And like Blow, it’s based on a true story.
Universal has released an official trailer for American Made, and you can read more about it and see the trailer and a poster below.

Doug Liman Says ‘Edge Of Tomorrow’ Is A Sequel That’s Also A Prequel

Despite Edge Of Tomorrow‘s tepid box office performance, most would agree that the time-traveling actioner was thoroughly exciting. Directed by Doug Liman, the film starred Tom Cruise was a soldier with the ability to experience time loops, that sends him back to the day preceding the battle every time he dies. He then teams up with Emily Blunt, who helps him use his ability to its full potential. Because the film eventually found its audience through word of mouth and home entertainment, Warner Brothers gave the green light for the sequel, which according to Liman will also be a prequel.

Doug Liman To Direct ‘Justice League Dark’; Will No Longer Direct ‘Gambit’

Despite the mounting issues that Warner Bros.’ DCEU has, there are still many other projects to look forward to. Aside from the typical Wonder Woman, The Flash, Justice League, and standalone Batman film, there is also the long-gestating Justice League Dark. Yes, that project is still very much alive, and after spending some time in the development process the studio has found its director in Doug Liman.
If that sounds a bit strange to you, it is because it is. Liman was the director for Gambit, but given that film’s troubled production history, the Edge of Tomorrow director has moved on over to work on this dark supernatural DCEU film. More on the story below.

Christopher McQuarrie Confirms Tom Cruise’s ‘Edge Of Tomorrow 2’ Idea
|
 |

While promoting Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, Tom Cruise talked about how he pitched an idea for Edge of Tomorrow 2 (or will it be Live. Die. Repeat. 2.?) to director Doug Liman and screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie. “I pitched it to McQuarrie and Doug. We were there one night and I was like, I’ve got an idea for it,” said Cruise in an interview with MTV. The actor is also trying to convince Emily Blunt to return to reprise her role as Sergeant Rita Rose Vrataski.
With the disappointing box office performance and the confusing title change during the home entertainment marketing campaign, it’s still unclear if Warner Bros., even wants to move forward with a sequel. But that hasn’t stopped Cruise from expressing his desire to get one into production. Of course pitching an idea is one thing, and saying you did so during an interview doesn’t really hold much weight. But McQuarrie confirms that the idea is real, but as of right now that is all it is. More on the story below.

Did WB Rename ‘Edge Of Tomorrow’ For The Home Video Release?
|
 |

When it comes to Edge Of Tomorrow, Warner Bros. really just doesn’t know how to market the Tom Cruise action film and it definitely doesn’t know what to call it. Originally titled All You Need is Killed, for the name of the book from which it’s adapted, WB later changed it to the generic-sounding Edge Of Tomorrow. While the film was actually really good, it bombed at the box office, which might be the reason why the studio is trying a different approach for the upcoming home video release.
Edge Of Tomorrow comes to DVD, Blu-ray Combo Pack, 3D Blu-ray Combo Pack, and Instant Video on October 7, 2014, but good luck finding the title on the cover, which has LIVE. DIE. REPEAT., the film’s tagline, taking up most of the real estate. The emphasis on the tagline is similar to the theatrical posters that were reportedly placed all over Los Angeles soon after the film’s poor opening weekend back in May.
Check out the Blu-ray cover here below. You can see that the side of the case lists the title as Live Die Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow.
