The Dead Don't Die

Focus Features has released a new trailer for The Dead Don’t Die, the zombie comedy from Broken Flowers and Only Lovers Left Alive writer and director Jim Jarmusch. The film features a huge cast, with Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Tilda Swinton, Chloë Sevigny, Steve Buscemi, Danny Glover, Caleb Landry Jones, Rosie Perez, Iggy Pop, Sara Driver, RZA, Selena Gomez, Carol Kane, Austin Butler, Luka Sabbat, and Tom Waits all starring.

The new trailer is of the restricted variety, which means it’s not so safe for workplace viewing. It’s only about a minute long, but the trailer packs in some funny moments and a few good zombie kills. You can find a synopsis for The Dead Don’t Die and watch the new trailer below.

The Dead Don't Die Trailer

If you’ve seen one zombie movie, you’ve probably seen them all. The undead walking amongst the living and spreading the infection by chomping down on innocent victims. The rules of surviving this world have been well established throughout many zombie films.

But the latest from writer and director Jim Jarmusch (Broken Flowers, Only Lovers Left Alive), titled The Dead Don’t Die, portrays zombies in a different kind of light. One that will see Adam Driver leading “the greatest zombie cast ever disassembled.”

Focus Features has released an official trailer for the film, and you can check it out below along with a poster.

Later this week the first movie in Universal’s shared Dark Universe franchise kicks off with The Mummy. Tom Cruise stars in the movie, but it’s not the only thing you’ll see him in this year. Releasing this fall is another Universal title starring Cruise, American Made.

In the movie Cruise plays a pilot who partakes in work of questionable legality, which leads to him being recruited by much bigger and more powerful employers. If a Top Gun 2 wasn’t already in the works, you could picture this as a sequel mixed with a bit of Blow starring Johnny Depp, who’s also part of Universal’s Dark Universe as The Invisible Man. The movie is directed by Doug Liman, who worked with Cruise on Edge of Tomorrow. And like Blow, it’s based on a true story.

Universal has released an official trailer for American Made, and you can read more about it and see the trailer and a poster below.

Whether it’s Rosemary’s Baby, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, or Videodrome, the best horror films act as subversive social commentaries, dealing with humanity’s fears on a subconscious level and offering a kind of communal catharsis.

In his 1981 non-fiction book, Danse Macabre, author Stephen King states that the horror genre can “serve as an extraordinarily accurate barometer of those things which trouble the night-thoughts of a whole society.” George A. Romero’s landmark 1968 film, Night of the Living Dead, for example, was rife with racial commentary during the height of the Civil Rights Movement.
