Legendary Swedish viking metal band Amon Amarth has just released its tenth album via Metal Blade Records. The disc is called Jomsviking and it is the band’s first concept album.
Jomsviking is already being hailed as the band’s strongest effort in years. The first official single from the album is the opening track “First Kill” and it is our Massive Metal Monday selection for this week.
Singer Johann Hegg had this to say about the story that weaves throughout the record in a recent interview with Blabbermouth:
“The Jomsvikings and their world is the background for the story of a young man that is in love with a girl but unfortunately she’s being married off. He accidentally kills a man when this happens and he has to flee “” but he swears to have revenge and win her back. He can’t let go of the past. He feels that he’s been wronged and his life has been destroyed. The way the story evolves is not a happy story.”
