Attention Star Trek fans! This summer you will get the chance to become a member of the United Federation of Planets’ Starfleet thanks to the good people at New York’s Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum.
Check out the announcement below.
In celebration of the Trek franchise’s 50th anniversary, Star Trek: The Starfleet Academy Experience, which will span an entire 10,000 square foot exhibit area, gives museum attendees the opportunity to go through the full range of cadet training in what has been described as “an immersive experience that appears to encompass the entire Trek universe, from language learning to navigation and engineering”.
The announcement was made via the museum’s Twitter feed, as well as the official Star Trek feed:
Nine “specialty zones” have been set up for the occasion, and at the conclusion of training, cadets will undergo “sorting” to determine what sort of role they would play in the world of Star Trek. Authenticity is the highest priority of the exhibition, and patrons who attend The Starfleet Academy Experience can expect to find fully functioning technology on hand, including phasers, tricorders, and transporters “all brought to life via RFID, projection mapping, and other innovative techniques”.
Star Trek: The Starfleet Academy Experience opens at the Intrepid Museum on July 8th, 2016, and will conclude on October 31st. In addition to this interactive exhibit, the museum will also be offering many Trekkie themed events during its run, including summer camps, sleepover nights, and lots more.
