The Jungle Book

It’s beginning to look like Disney really likes to have Lupita Nyong’o in their films. Having already appeared in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, The Jungle Book, and the upcoming Queen Of Katwe, the actress has yet to appear in a Disney Animated Studios film, a Pixar film, and of course, a Marvel film.

Well she probably can scratch off a Marvel film off her list since she is in talks to appear in the Ryan Coogler-directed Black Panther, starring Chadwick Boseman. More on the story below.

The Hollywood Reporter exclusively broke the news earlier today. While it is still not clear what the film could be about, word is there is a chance that we could see Andy Serkis reprise his role as Ulysses Klaue, a villain obsessed with collecting vibranium and dealing weapons in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Although Martin Freeman‘s Everett Ross was just a member of the Joint Counter Terrorism Center in Captain America: Civil War, there is a chance that his role could expand to a larger one by making him a government liaison to the nation of Wakanda. And let’s not forget Florence Kasumba as Black Panther’s security guard who we saw in Civil War as well, as she was about to fight Black Widow before they were stopped by T’Challa.

According to their reports, N’yongo’s character has not been revealed although she will be the Panther’s love interest. As comic book fans would know, T’Challa’s love interest is none other than Ororo Munroe aka Storm, a character that is currently owned by Fox. While it will be somewhat of a disappointment to see that these two will never fall in love in the Cinematic Universe, it is not a problem that cannot be fixed. Often times they are easily remedied by studios having characters switched or changed.

While Black Panther played more of a supporting role in Civil War, his character was easily one of the favorites of the film, and his organic introduction made us that much more excited for his solo feature film. Boseman gave a strong performance showing that Black Panther’s introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe was long overdue. He was noble, strong, and fought with a sense of justice. Those kinds of qualities should make Boseman and Nyong’o a perfect pairing in the film.

Black Panther arrives in theaters February 16, 2018.
