It’s been hinted. It’s been speculated. It’s been debated. It’s been hoped for. And now it is confirmed. Season 3 of The Flash will have its version of the DC Comics Flashpoint storyline, whose ending was the beginning of The New 52. Grant Gustin tweeted the news this morning after hinting his excitement after reading the episode 1 script.
Check out Gustin’s tweets below.
At the end of season 2, Barry went back to that fateful night his mother died at the hands of Reverse Flash once again, but this time did what he could not do before. He saved her, his other adult self looking on in confusion before fading. Fans everywhere immediately thought of Flashpoint, which begins in much the same way. When Flash returns to the present in the comics, everything is different and it takes him a bit to realize he is the one at fault, finally enlisting Batman’s help to make everything right.
We know Batman isn’t showing up next season or at all, but the show has plenty of avenues to travel, including the return of evil Dr. Wells aka Eobard Thawne (Tom Cavanagh), whose milder Earth-2 Harry went back home right before Barry messed stuff up again.
How will this affect our other DC superheroes on The CW, all slated to get together in a giant crossover? Who knows, but I can’t wait to find out!
Season 3 of The Flash premieres Tuesday, October 4th at 8:00pm ET on The CW.
