The cast and producers of American Gods appeared at a panel this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con, where they showed off the first trailer for the upcoming Starz television series.
Cast member Gillan Anderson, who plays Media, was unable to make the Con, but she tweeted out a sneak peek of herself dressed as Media in the form of Marilyn Monroe.
Check out the image here below.
Previously, the only glimpse at Anderson as Media we got was the image here at top where she’s blurred in the background with her hand in the forefront holding some kind of remote. This new photo shows a clear, full-length shot of Media.
Here’s the official description of Media via Starz:
Anderson plays Media, the mouthpiece for the New Gods, functioning as their public face and sales representative, by taking the form of various iconic celebrities. She lives off the attention and worship that people give to screens-to their laptops, their TVs, to their iPhones in their hands while they watch their TVs. Ever the perky spokesperson, and always in control, she spins stories in whatever direction best suits her.
The TV series is based on the novel by Neil Gaiman, who also serves as an executive producer on the show. The series will reportedly use notes about the characters and story from the author that did not make it into the final cut of his book.
Here’s the official plot summary about the show from Starz:
The plot posits a war brewing between old and new gods: the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world steadily losing believers to an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs. Its protagonist, Shadow Moon, is an ex-con who becomes bodyguard and traveling partner to Mr. Wednesday, a conman but in reality one of the older gods, on a cross-country mission to gather his forces in preparation to battle the new deities.
American Gods, which debuts on Starz in 2017, stars Ricky Whittle as Shadow Moon, Ian McShane as Mr. Wednesday, Emily Browning as Laura Moon, Crispin Glover as Mr. World, Cloris Leachman as Zorya Vechernyaya, Gillian Anderson as Media, Orlando Jones as Mr. Nancy, and Kristin Chenoweth as Easter.
