Only three episodes into American Horror Story: Roanoke, the series 6th season on the FX network, and it is already picked up for a 7th season. Fresh off two more Emmy wins, the show created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk will return in 2017, to once again ruin bedtimes with their unique brand of horror. It was an easy call for FX execs, as the premiere episode of this season was the third highest rated broadcast on the network for the adults 18-34 demographic. The creators ran a genius viral marketing campaign, keeping the theme of the season a secret, and encouraging the fans to posts their guesses after countless video clues.
More below.
American Horror Story has been so successful thanks to combination of fantastic writing, and an all-star cast that faithfully return each season in different roles. Season One was “Murder House,” and instantly became the scariest show on television, with its bizarre mix of gothic and erotic horror. They moved on to “Asylum,” “Coven,” and “Freakshow,” before last season’s “Hotel” introduced TV audiences to Lady Gaga as the uber-sexual Countess. Gaga joined a cast that already included Oscar winners Kathy Bates, and Jessica Lange, Oscar nominee Angela Bassett, Emmy winner Sarah Paulson, X-Men star Evan Peters, amongst others. This season added Oscar AND Emmy winner Cuba Gooding Jr to the mix.
Television’s scariest show is guaranteed to continue keeping us awake at night for at least another year. Currently, the Miller family is being tortured by ghosts of the first colony on Roanoke. One can only guess what season 7’s theme will be. Already rumors are circling as one unconfirmed report had “Summer Camp” listed as a theme, and the horror genre certainly has a rich history to dabble in there.
American Horror Story: Roanoke continues Wednesday nights at 10:00pm ET on FX.
