It goes without saying that studios who attend major Comic-Cons will be there with some footage of their upcoming tentpole films. While the San Diego Comic-Con is in a league of its own, the New York Comic-Con isn’t one to be overlooked. In the past few years, it has been making a name for itself, and with Lionsgate announcing that they will be presenting footage from John Wick: Chapter 2 and Power Rangers, it looks like audiences are in for some more geek goodness.
20th Century Fox is the latest studio to announce that they will be having a panel for their upcoming films as well. Now, they have unveiled the first look at War for the Planet of the Apes by releasing a teaser trailer at NYCC today. Check out the teaser here below.
The teaser, though simple, is very cold and ominous, as a blistering snow fall starts to form Caesar, his voiceover warning that war is coming. Here’s is what he said in the trailer:
“You must go before fighting begins. I’m sorry. War. Has. Begun.”
There you have it, as the title suggests, the film will center around the war between the humans and the apes, something that was hinted at towards the end of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
Directed by Matt Reeves, who also co-wrote the script with Mark Bomback, War for the Planet of the Apes stars Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Gabriel Chavarria, and Judy Greer. It is scheduled to open in theaters on July 14, 2017.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
In War for the Planet of the Apes, the third chapter of the critically acclaimed blockbuster franchise, Caesar and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless Colonel. After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the Colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both their species and the future of the planet.
