Sometimes your eyes see things they can’t un-see. Yesterday at New York Comic-Con, inside a packed Hammerstein Ballroom, the cast of Ash vs Evil Dead held a hilarious 45-minute panel discussion before debuting the second episode of their second season on the Starz network. Bruce Campbell, the man himself, introduced the episode to a crowd fist bumping their foam finger chainsaw hands. And then he issued the warning”¦ you are about to see something so crazy that it’s never been done before on television”¦ you’ll know it when you see, and you may want to, but you will not be able to turn away. After the panel, we were treated to an advanced screening of the next episode, Episode 2.2 “The Morgue” – check out my recap of it here below.

Spoilers below for Ash vs Evil Dead

Last week on the season 2 premiere of Ash vs Evil Dead, Ash and his trusty sidekicks Pablo (Ray Santiago) and Kelly (Dana DeLorenzo) were chill-axing in Jacksonville, FL. That is until five minutes into the episode when deadites returned and soon everyone was covered in blood. Ruby’s demon spawn turned on her and wanted to steal the Necronomicon for themselves and she needs Ash to help. Ash was forced to go back to his hometown of Elk’s Grove, Michigan. There he is the town pariah “Ashy Slashy” and he must confront his estranged father, Brock Williams (Lee Majors).

On Episode 2.2 “The Morgue,” Ash, Kelly, Ruby, and Pablo return to Ash’s old house only to find Ruby hid the book in a place where a demon couldn’t find it: a rotting corpse in the morgue. Ash and Kelly head off to the hospital while Pablo stays behind to watch Ruby. Poor Pablo”¦ he has haunting visions from his possession by the Necronomicon, and the others take turns calling him a vagina all the time. Brock meanwhile is hosting a lady friend who certainly is not what she appears to be.

At the morgue, Ash searches through the corpses in the only way he knows how. After sawing through several bodies and getting coated in a thick layer of blood (as usual), he finds the book. But nothing can that simple and soon Ash is fighting off corpses piece by piece in a scene that started reminding me of Stuart Gordon’s Re-Animator. And then”¦ well, you’ll just have to watch. All I’ll tell you is that the 18-year-old next to me made a loud gurgling sound and then sat shaking, head down for the final 7-10 minutes of the episode. The crowd was shrieking and screaming, and I was equal parts hysterical at what I was watching and scared of being puked on by a stranger.

Evil Dead fans may be the only ones who can see this episode and laugh and scream and run to tell their friends. It was simply unbelievable”¦ Bruce Campbell was right. Ash vs Evil Dead is on Sunday nights at 8:00 on Starz. Download the Starz App today and get a free trial to watch the entire first season and catch up. This is the best and bloodiest thirty minutes on TV.
