The Fate of the Furious starring Vin Diesel

The Fast and Furious franchise has seen many title changes in the past, but there’s some things that remain consistent — fast cars and family. Universal has dropped the first trailer for The Fate of the Furious, the eighth installment of the Fast and Furious film franchise. F. Gary Gray takes over the director’s chair this time, taking the film to all new locations, and amping up the action with even more thrills. But our team won’t be pulling off heists, or stealing cars, or even getting revenge, they will be hunting one of their own when Dom (Vin Diesel) betrays the family.

Check out the full trailer here below.

The Fast and Furious franchise has always found a way to reinvent itself to stay relevant and entertaining. Transforming itself from taking audiences to the world of street racing, to the crew pulling off heists. Now it seems that family is a huge central part of the recent films, with Dom and his crew getting revenge on the loss of one of their own in Furious 7. But in Fate of the Furious, we see that Dom clearly turns his back on his family, for some unknown reason. Not only does he hurt Hobbs, but he hurts other members of his crew, physically and emotionally. And for some reason, Charlize Theron‘s character is the reason for this betrayal.

Many were wondering how the franchise could move forward with the loss of Paul Walker. The film hasn’t lost sight that he was a very important part to the franchise, and makes it a point to reference his character in the trailer.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Now that Dom and Letty are on their honeymoon and Brian and Mia have retired from the game””and the rest of the crew has been exonerated””the globetrotting team has found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman (Charlize Theron) seduces Dom into the world of crime he can’t seem to escape and a betrayal of those closest to him, they will face trials that will test them as never before.

From the shores of Cuba and the streets of New York City to the icy plains off the arctic Barents Sea, our elite force will crisscross the globe to stop an anarchist from unleashing chaos on the world’s stage”¦and to bring home the man who made them a family.

Starring Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Helen Mirren, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky, Scott Eastwood, and Kurt Russell, The Fate of the Furious hits theaters on April 14, 2017.
