Just Cause 3

Aquaman and Game of Thrones star Jason Momoa has signed on to star in movie based on the hit video game series Just Cause. The hope is that the movie will be the start of a new franchise.

Set to direct is Brad Peyton, who made the disaster movie San Andreas. Peyton and Momoa recently worked together on the historical drama TV series Frontier, which can be found on Netflix.

Details on the Just Cause movie’s plot are not being shared yet. All that is known is that Momoa will be playing the same character as the main protagonist of the games, Rico Rodriguez, an operative for an organization called the Agency who is struggling with a crisis of conscience while on a mission.

The screenplay is penned by Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, Happy Feet, and Happy Feet 2 writer John Collee. Collee also wrote the script for Tanna, an Australian movie which was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the recent Academy Awards, losing to Iran’s The Salesman.

Momoa has also starred in Stargate: Atlantis, Conan the Barbarian, and Bullet to the Head. After a cameo in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, he makes his official debut as Aquaman in Justice League later this year in November. He then has the solo movie Aquaman scheduled for a release in October of 2018. The actor is also said to be attached to star in the remake of The Crow, though it’s not clear what the status of that project currently is.

Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, and the 2016 horror Incarnate are among the titles Peyton has directed. Next up he has Rampage, an adaptation of the classic arcade game starring Dwayne Johnson, who also starred in Journey 2 and the above mentioned San Andreas for Peyton. The director is also attached to make Journey 3: From the Earth to the Moon and San Andreas 2—both with Johnson starring—though the status of those projects is unclear at the moment.
