It took quite a while for AMC to determine whether or not to give Into the Badlands another season—over two months after its six-episode debut season ended. When word finally arrived that season two was a go, it was clear that AMC would need to see more from the series in its sophomore effort if its story were to continue on from there.
We’re now over halfway through the show’s second season, with the season one-matching sixth episode airing this past weekend, and AMC has seen enough. The network has officially ordered a season three for Into the Badlands. And, even more exciting for fans of one of the most original series on television, the order includes more episodes than previous seasons have had.
AMC has ordered an expanded third season of the show, which will feature 16 total episodes. The current season will be 10 episodes long.
Of the announcement, AMC president Charlie Collier said:
“”˜Into the Badlands’ looks like nothing else on television, a literal high-wire act attracting passionate and dedicated fans by the millions. Thanks to series creators and showrunners Al Gough and Miles Millar, the terrific cast, led by Daniel Wu, the amazing martial arts team guided by the incomparable Master Dee Dee and fight directors Stephen Fung and Andy Cheng, and everyone else involved who brings this thrill ride to the fans.”
With Gough and Millar adding:
“We are excited and grateful to continue our journey into the Badlands with Charlie, Joel, Susie and all of our friends at AMC. We also want to give a big clipper salute to our Irish and Chinese partners! The thought of doing an expanded 16-episode season is both thrilling and exhausting!!”
Into the Badlands season two airs on Sunday nights on AMC. Season three will premiere sometime in 2018.
