Fans of the music comedy That Thing You Do! will be excited to learn that the band from the movie, The Wonders (previously known as The Oneders), reunited recently to perform the title song.
Three of the four band members, Ethan Embry, Johnathon Schaech, and Tom Everett Scott, were brought together by Josh Adam Meyers, who handled vocals, for The Goddamn Comedy Jam. Steve Zahn, who played the fourth member of the band, was unable to take part. Though someone filling in was sure to wear a Steve Zahn mask.
You can find a video of the band playing their hit song and another video and some images shared on social media below.
That Thing You Do! came out in 1996, and was written and directed by Tom Hanks, who also starred as the band’s manager. The movie was the feature directorial debut for Hanks. The only other movie he’s directed since is 2011’s Larry Crowne. He’s also directed a few TV episodes, including for Band of Brothers, From the Earth to the Moon, Tales from the Crypt, and a League of Their Own TV series I didn’t even know was a thing.
Though the band reunited and appeared to have a great time with it, not all of them are fans of the song. In a chat with Entertainment Weekly for the film’s 20th anniversary last year, Embry admitted that he’s not all that fond of the tune:
“I hate that song. I remember it reached that point of, like, “˜I can’t play this song one more time.'”
Thankfully he can still have fun with it on special occasions like this one. In fact, he appears to be enjoying playing the song more than everyone else.
That Thing You Do! also starred Liv Tyler, Charlize Theron, and Giovanni Ribisi.
