It is the time of year where season finales are wowing us, and series finales are making us cry. It is the time where we start thinking that all good television has already left us, like Bates Motel and The Vampire Diaries and Grimm and Outsiders (and many many more). We have to browse through the brand new shows and the revivals for the next future classic to tear at our hearts or make us laugh. One show I will definitely be checking out is The Good Doctor, headed to ABC, starring genius Freddie Highmore.

To be completely transparent, Highmore dazzled me so much as Norman Bates on the incredible A&E series, Bates Motel, I would watch anything he does. But the premise of an young, autistic surgeon saving lives in the harrowing atmosphere of a hospital, is compelling tv as well (my guilty pleasure is Grey’s Anatomy – makes me cry every week).

From the creator of House, Shaun Murphy (Highmore) is introduced as an incredible young surgeon who not only overcomes his disabilities, but exceeds them. With it comes the bias and other troubles such a gifted man could bring to a hospital and life and death situations.

ABC’s Synopsis:

Shaun Murphy (Freddie Highmore, “Bates Motel”), a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome, relocates from a quiet country life to join a prestigious hospital’s surgical unit. Alone in the world and unable to personally connect with those around him, Shaun uses his extraordinary medical gifts to save lives and challenge the skepticism of his colleagues. The series is from David Shore (“House”), and “Lost” and “Hawaii Five-O” star Daniel Dae Kim.

The series stars Freddie Highmore as Dr. Shaun Murphy, Antonia Thomas as Dr. Claire Brown, Nicholas Gonzalez as Dr. Neal Melendez, Chuku Modu as Dr. Jared Kalu, Beau Garrett as Jessica Preston, Hill Harper as Dr. Marcus Andrews and Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman.

The series is from Sony Pictures Television and ABC Studios. David Shore is writer and executive producer. Daniel Dae Kim, David Kim and Sebastian Lee are also executive producers. Seth Gordon directed the pilot and is also an executive producer.
