When Red Dead Redemption 2 was officially announced last fall, the game’s release was planned for one year later in the fall of 2017. Fans who had been waiting for the sequel since the release of Red Dead Redemption in 2010 were elated, but well aware that initial release windows often change.
Developer and Publisher Rockstar Games has now announced that the release of the game has been pushed back a bit to one year from now in the spring of 2018. As is usually the case with these delays, it’s simply to ensure a better final product, which I for one am all for.
To help make up for the delay, Rockstar has also released a handful of new screenshots from the game, which you can see above and below.
Rockstar released this brief statement on the decision:
Red Dead Redemption 2 is now set to launch Spring 2018 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This outlaw epic set across the vast and unforgiving American heartland will be the first Rockstar game created from the ground up for the latest generation of console hardware, and some extra time is necessary to ensure that we can deliver the best experience possible for our fans.
We are very sorry for any disappointment this delay causes, but we are firm believers in delivering a game only when it is ready. We are really excited to bring you more details about the game this summer. In the meantime, please enjoy this selection of new screenshots from the world of Red Dead Redemption 2.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is briefly described as “An epic tale of life in America’s unforgiving heartland, the game’s vast and atmospheric world will also provide the foundation for a brand new online multiplayer experience.”
The game can be pre-ordered for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Hopefully we’ll get to see a little more of it when E3 2017 kicks off next month. For now, enjoy these screenshots. And, if you missed it, click here to watch the first trailer for the game.
