Book Expo

Book Expo descended on NYC Thursday and Friday, and it was a reader’s dream. The prelude to Book Con (Saturday and Sunday), Book Expo was like having a Jacob Javitz Center sized library organized by publisher, where free books are literally thrown at you. And not only that, many of the books have not been released yet, and the authors are just hanging out ready to talk.

One of the many many publishers was Scholastic which handed out books like candy in “read-topia.” There are many lovely tomes headed our way from this kid-centric press (young adult too!) this fall.

Check them out below.

You know the story–or do you?

Cady Heron grew up homeschooled in Africa with scientist parents as her teachers, monkeys as her classmates and the African plains as her playground. But when her family moves to the suburbs of Illinois, she finds herself a stranger in a strange land: high school.

With no prior research to guide her, Cady’s forced to figure out North Shore High all on her own. Suddenly she finds herself sucked into Girl World as a new member of the social elite dubbed “The Plastics.” Cady discovers that unlike the wild, Girl World doesn’t have any rules–especially when you maybe, possibly, okay definitely, have a giant crush on their ruthless leader’s ex-boyfriend. Written by Sarah Moon
Arthur A. Levine Books
An Imprint of Scholastic
Release Date: October 10th, 2017

Sarah Moon has woven words into a beautiful story about the loneliness of adolescence, and finding solace in friendship and music.

Sparrow has always had a difficult time making friends. She would always rather have stayed home on the weekends with her mother, an affluent IT Executive at a Brooklyn bank, reading, or watching the birds, then playing with other kids. And that’s made school a lonely experience for her. It’s made LIFE a lonely experience.

But when the one teacher who really understood her — Mrs. Wexler, the school librarian, a woman who let her eat her lunch in the library office rather than hide in a bathroom stall, a woman who shared her passion for novels and knew just the ones she’d love — is killed in a freak car accident, Sparrow’s world unravels and she’s found on the roof of her school in an apparent suicide attempt.

With the help of an insightful therapist, Sparrow finally reveals the truth of her inner life. And it’s here that she discovers an outlet in Rock & Roll music…

And if you cannot wait for the summer or fall, here are some fantastic titles from Scholastic just waiting to be devoured right now!

Written by Ira Bloom
Release Date: March 28th, 2017

Sisters Esme, Katy, and Ronnie are smart, talented, and gorgeous, and better yet . . . all three are witches. They have high school wired until the arrival of two new students. The second new arrival is Zack, an impossibly handsome late transfer from the UK who has the girls at school instantly mesmerized. Soon even sensible Esme has forgotten Norman, and all three sisters are in a flat-out hex war to win Zack. But while the magic is flying, only Norman seems to notice that students who wander off alone with Zack end up with crushed bones and memory loss. Or worse, missing entirely.
