Big Ben! The Great Wall of China! The Sphinx! Nowhere on Earth is safe from flying monster sharks. “You see where this is going… right?” That’s all you get in this 20-second teaser for the fifth, yes, fifth installment of the Syfy channel series from B-movie mega producer, The Asylum. Sharknado 5 will span the globe as the shark-fueled natural disasters follow our main characters to various locations hosting climate change summits. Hence, the topical subtitle, “Global Swarming.”

Sharknado first debuted back in 2013 and became a social media hit. The horribly cheesy special effects and completely absurd plot made it an instant sensation. When former 90210 heartthrob Ian Ziering leaped, chainsaw first, into and out of a giant great white shark, there was just no stopping it. Each year, another sequel and more stars lined up for cameos. Alongside Ziering and co-stars Tara Reid and Cassandra Scerbo, we’ve had David Hasselhoff, Chris Jericho, Mark Cuban, Penn & Teller, Gary Busey, and more. A virtual parade of C, D, and F list stars from the world of sports and entertainment continue to line up to appear in this now annual summer event.

Sharknado 5: Global Swarming will feature appearances by Dan Fogler, Olivia Newton-John, Charo, Chris Kattan, Bret Michaels, and of course, Fabio… as THE POPE! Sharknado 5 will once again be directed by Anthony C. Ferrante, and written by Thunder Levin along with Scotty Mullen. It premieres on SyFy on Sunday, August 6th. With The Shallows last year, 47 Meters Down hitting theaters this week, and Meg due out in 2018, something tells me I’ll be reviewing Sharknado movies until the end of time. I’m strangely okay with that.
