Earlier today, we dropped a poetic recap of American Gods Episode 1.7: “A Prayer for Mad Sweeney.”
But… not everyone enjoys epic prose.
Therefore, we’ve got a few video recaps from STARZ themselves.
(For those who dunna like the readin’, a video recap to keep yer eyes from bleedin’.)
First Up, we have a sample of one of Essie McGowan’s (Emily Browing) many chances at life after getting caught by crime. “Chances.”
Next up, we have Essie Tales. Long after Essie McGowan (Fionnula Flanagan) became a grandmother, she was spinning yarns to indoctrinate the youth into the faith.
This episode was a complete departure from the paradigm of any TV show, even American Gods. The fact is that despite Laura Moon having an important role in the American Gods novel, she wasn’t a central character in the way Emily Browning’s take on Shadow’s Zombie wife has been.
To date, the two episodes that focused on Browning’s characterizations within this universe have been, possibly, the strongest two episodes of the season. This doesn’t mean Browning is flawless, but it does mean that she’s a powerful force behind the show’s success, despite her diminutive appearance and the fact that Laura Moon’s body is, quite literally, falling apart.
At Geeks Of Doom’s The Dominant Paradigm podcast, we’re excited to see what happens in Season 2 of American Gods, but in the meantime we’ll be looking for whatever Browning is up to during the show’s hiatus.
