John Carpenter is the Master of Horror. And as the master he seeks to control all phases of horror entertainment. Known the world over for his theatrical classics like Halloween, The Thing, Escape from New York, and more, Carpenter released an album in 2014, and is dabbling in the world of comic books and graphic novels with the Asylum books released for Storm King Productions, a production company run by Carpenter and his wife Sandy King Carpenter.
Now Carpenter seeks to take over television, signing a development deal with Universal Cable Productions (UCP) where he will executive produce scripted programming, UCP announced today. Horror is as explosive a genre on TV right now across basic cable, premium channels, and streaming. Shows like The Walking Dead, Ash vs Evil Dead, American Horror Story, Preacher, Blood Drive, and more are dominating the ratings and getting renewed season after season, and so who better than Carpenter to get directly involved.
Carpenter is already connected with UCP to develop Tales For a Halloween Night for the Syfy Channel based on his own graphic novel anthology. The books featured stories from horror writers in movies, novels, comics, and covered every possible horror sub genre. Together UCP and Carpenter are also collaborating on Nightside based on Simon R. Green’s New York Times bestseller. Nightside tells the tale of the dark hidden side of London and has Jill Blotevogel (MTV’s Scream) connected as writer. UCP has been collecting an impressive list of horror and genre themed shows including The Sinner, Damnation, and The Purge for USA Network and Syfy.
Carpenter is producing the projects for UCP along with longtime collaborator and wife Sandy King Carpenter under their Storm King Productions banner.
