After winning an auction for the rights, Paramount Pictures is developing a prequel to Dracula, author Bram Stoker‘s 1897 vampire tale.
Attached to direct the prequel is Andy Muschietti, who also directed Mama and this week’s IT, the latest adaptation of Stephen King’s work of the same name.
The project is the first authorized Dracula prequel, with the screenplay written by Bram’s great-grand nephew Dacre Stoker and J.D. Barker.
It will be set in 1868, following a 21-year-old Bram Stoker meeting an evil that he traps in an ancient tower.
Producing the prequel will be Roy Lee and Barbara Muschietti.
