These days it is zombie this and zombie that. But once upon a time, vampires were a far bigger deal and horror fans would pack movie theaters and buy the books like crazy. And I do not mean those sparkly little pansy vampires, either. They should never have existed! Anyway, in Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter #1 we get a glimpse of those fiends of yesteryear.
This issue is, of course, all about set up. The good Captain and his team are in the midst of chasing down and eradicating one of the undead monstrosities when they encounter a group in dire need of their services. Upon learning of the terrors these others have witnessed, our team of vampire hunters sets off to do battle with the nest of creatures that have been literally holding a town hostage for a decade. But it seems the monsters know they are coming! The element of surprise is gone, so what fate awaits our courageous adventurers? Mums the word from me!
Truly a throwback to the Hammer Films that preceded it, this comic even feels like a movie script. You will identify with it as I did if you ever sat through a Saturday afternoon matinee of cheesy and schticky horror and science fiction movies. That said, I loved it! Enjoy it for what it is: a B-movie in comic book form. I cannot wait for the second issue!
