Netflix has released a brief teaser trailer for their upcoming cyberpunk sci-fi series Altered Carbon. The teaser also reveals a release date for the first season of the series.
The TV series is an adaptation of the novel of the same name written by Richard Morgan. It’s set well in the future, when the technology exists to transfer the human mind into a new body, effectively making it possible to live forever.
You can read more about Altered Carbon and watch the teaser trailer below.
In the twenty-fifth century, humankind has spread throughout the galaxy, monitored by the watchful eye of the U.N. While divisions in race, religion, and class still exist, advances in technology have redefined life itself. Now, assuming one can afford the expensive procedure, a person’s consciousness can be stored in a cortical stack at the base of the brain and easily downloaded into a new body (or “sleeve”) making death nothing more than a minor blip on a screen.
Ex-U.N. envoy Takeshi Kovacs has been killed before, but his last death was particularly painful. Dispatched one hundred eighty light-years from home, re-sleeved into a body in Bay City (formerly San Francisco, now with a rusted, dilapidated Golden Gate Bridge), Kovacs is thrown into the dark heart of a shady, far-reaching conspiracy that is vicious even by the standards of a society that treats “existence” as something that can be bought and sold. For Kovacs, the shell that blew a hole in his chest was only the beginning. . .
The Netflix adaptation was created by Laeta Kalogridis, who has previously worked on screenplays such as Night Watch, Alexander, Shutter Island, Terminator Genisys, and the upcomingAlita: Battle Angel.
Altered Carbon season one arrives on Netflix on February 2, 2018.
Trailer
Based on the award-winning novel, Altered Carbon takes place in a future where the human mind can now be digitized and downloaded into a “cortical stack” and placed into new bodies, called sleeves.
The series follows Envoy soldier Takeshi Kovacs (Joel Kinnaman), who is brought back to life centuries later to investigate the attempted murder of Laurens Bancroft (James Purefoy), the wealthiest man on Earth. As the investigation progresses, Kovacs comes to learn that his past isn’t nearly as buried as he thought.
The series debuts exclusively on Netflix February 2nd, 2018.

This is one of my favourite ever novels – just hope they do it justice. This could well make up for the disappointment of Electric Dreams.
