Since it was first released, writer/director/producer/star Tommy Wiseau‘s top contender for worst movie ever made, The Room, has slowly but surely collected an impressive cult following. To this day, midnight screenings are held all over, attracting the movie’s fans to experience it the best way possible.
But due to a surge in popularity thanks to the recently released movie about the making of this best worst movie, The Disaster Artist, The Room is about to get a theatrical release no one who saw it when it first came out in 2003 would have ever believed it would one day get. Instead of the occasional midnight movie screening, it’s been announced that Wiseau’s disasterpiece will be getting a wide theatrical release in around 600 theaters all over the country.
Continue below for details, links, and a trailer.
The movie is playing all along the west coast, in a few locations around the middle of the country, and in lots and lots of places east of the Dakotas. There’s even a couple of shows in Alaska and one in Hawaii. You can head to the map covered by little Tommy Wiseaus to see if it’s playing anywhere near you.
“It’s really great because it’s going to tackle the other areas where people aren’t aware of The Room still.
I’ve never called it a cult phenomenon, or whatever they call it. I call it a free expression, that’s what The Room represents. I encourage people to express themselves in the screenings. A ton of people ask me, ‘Why do you encourage that?’ I say, ‘Why not?’ What I wanted was to give them a smile and it’s their choice if they want to express themselves.â€
Tickets can also be purchased through Fathom Events, who says that the event will also feature commercials with Tommy Wiseau, a peek at a screening in Hollywood, and a trailer for a new movie starring Wiseau and his Room co-star Greg Sestero (who wrote the book The Disaster Artist was based on), which is titled Best F(r)iends.
Come see the phenomenon that sells out screenings around the globe with this special screening of Tommy Wiseau’s The Room in all its spectacularly insane glory on January 10 only! The event includes the trailer for the upcoming film Best F(r)iends.
