Ava DuVernay‘s adaptation of A Wrinkle In Time is shaping up to be one of the most exciting films of the year. And it is also looking to be one of the most inspirational. The film marks the first time that an African American woman has directed a $100 million-plus budgeted film. And that is just the tip. There is also a well-rounded multi-ethnic cast that is led by a young woman of color. So it is a very timely film that speaks to the current social climate.
Based on all the trailers we have seen so far, A Wrinkle in Time will be a sensory thrill. It looks vibrant and exciting. The sounds are powerful. And the world DuVernay has created looks so real. Now, with the film just a month away from release, Disney has dropped another trailer. Check it out below.
We won’t get too much into the trailer, as it literally speaks for itself. The use of Alessia Cara’s “Scars To Your Beautiful” seems very fitting considering who the lead character is and what her motivations and struggles are in the film.
For those who may not be familiar with A Wrinkle In Time, the film is based on a novel by the same name written by Madeleine L’Engle. It is the first in a series of five novels called the “Time Quintet.” Like the novel, the lead character, Meg (played by Storm Reid), is mathematically brilliant, but her brilliance makes her a bit of an outcast. However, her intelligence will help her along her journey to find her father.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
From visionary director Ava DuVernay comes Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” an epic adventure based on Madeleine L’Engle’s timeless classic which takes audiences across dimensions of time and space, examining the nature of darkness versus light and, ultimately, the triumph of love. Through one girl’s transformative journey led by three celestial guides, we discover that strength comes from embracing one’s individuality and that the best way to triumph over fear is to travel by one’s own light.
A Wrinkle in Time also stars Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Peňa, Levi Miller, and Deric McCabe, with Zach Galifianakis and Chris Pine.
A Wrinkle In Time opens in theaters on March 9, 2018.
