A24 has released an official trailer for Hereditary, an upcoming horror starring Toni Collette, Milly Shapiro, Alex Wolff, Ann Dowd, and Gabriel Byrne. It’s directed by Ari Aster, who is making his feature debut.
The movie follows a family uncovering secrets about their ancestry, which grow more and more terrifying as they dig deeper. And if the trailer is any indication, we are in for one unsettling and nerve-rattling ride. You can read an official description for Hereditary and check out the trailer and a poster below.
When Ellen, the matriarch of the Graham family, passes away, her daughter’s family begins to unravel cryptic and increasingly terrifying secrets about their ancestry. The more they discover, the more they find themselves trying to outrun the sinister fate they seem to have inherited. Making his feature debut, writer-director Ari Aster unleashes a nightmare vision of a domestic breakdown that exhibits the craft and precision of a nascent auteur, transforming a familial tragedy into something ominous and deeply disquieting, and pushing the horror movie into chilling new terrain with its shattering portrait of heritage gone to hell.
Hereditary had its world premiere at the Sundance film festival recently, and will be released in theaters on June 8th.
