Brett Ratner Says He Will Direct ‘Rush Hour 4’ Though No One Wants To Tell Him He’s Really Not

Rush Hour Brett Ratner directs

Remember Rush Hour 4? Yeah, it was once an unnecessary sequel that was talked about in some circles. However, plans for that fell through in the wake of the multiple sexual misconduct allegations against director Brett Ratner. But even that isn’t stopping the filmmaker from going around and shopping the sequel to others. There are reports saying Ratner is going around town saying he will return to direct Rush Hour 4. Meanwhile, Warner Bros. says there are no plans for that. More on the story below.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, while Ratner says he will direct Rush Hour 4, WB says that there are no plans for one. Even if there were, he would not direct it. A source told THR the following:

“Brett has been walking around town telling people he’s going to direct a Rush Hour movie because it’s his only way back in,” says one source. “He’s trying to make believe he’s employable.” Putting together a movie with him would be “a suicide mission,” this person says.

Ratner is even going as far as checking in with WB every month or two to ask about the status of the project. And while WB maintains that he will not direct it, a bigger part of the problem is that no one wants to tell Ratner that he will not be directing it. A source told THR “no one is willing to tell Brett he’s not the director of the picture.” Which just gives him all the more reason to keep talking to WB as if it is really happening. So if they want it to stop, they’d better come out with it and say it.

Not sure if it is even necessary to move on with a fourth Rush Hour. Can’t remember the last time anyone asked for one or even talked about the franchise. There was an attempt to reboot the franchise as a television series over at CBS. It ran for only one season.

However, Rush Hour producer Arthur Sarkissian hopes that a sequel can get off the ground and is going about it in his own way to make that happen. He says that WB has put the film on a turn around, meaning to commission a script with outside financing. And if he can get the right pieces together, WB can opt back into being a part of the film. The franchise itself has grossed over $850 million. But Rush Hour 3, the last of the film series, was released back in 2007. 11 years later, there is still no interest in a Rush Hour 4.

Black-ish‘s Kenya Barris was approached to pen a script. However, he wanted no part of it if it meant that Ratner would still be on board. But he still passed even after Ratner was axed.
