Walt Disney Studios has released the final trailer for directors Lasse Hallstrom and Joe Johnston‘s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. The film is a CGI re-imagining of the classic E.T.A. Hoffmann fairy tale The Nutcracker and the Mouse King and the Tchaikovsky ballet based on it.
In it, Clara (Mackenzie Foy) journeys into a parallel world of snowflakes, flowers, sweets, and the Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren). Clara is the key to bringing forth peace within these four realms. Also starring is Keira Knightley, Jayden Fowora-Knight, Eugenio Derbez, Matthew Macfadyen, Richard E. Grant, Misty Copeland, and Morgan Freeman. Check out the final trailer for the film below.
We won’t get into any more details considering we’ve pretty much covered all that is to be covered about this film. Though it may be a new retelling of a fairy tale classic, it still feels very much like a CG-filled world with a few cool set pieces. Considering that Disney has no Marvel or Star Wars releases during the holiday weekend this year, it’s safe to say that this film will fill that void. Though, it remains to be seen how the general audience will react.
By the looks of things, it pretty much follows the same plot where the protagonist discovers that she is of royalty and discovers who they really are on her journey and fight against evil forces. While it is a theme everyone has seen before, it should be fun to see how the elements of the story and ballet blend together. I’m certainly looking forward to it.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
All Clara (Mackenzie Foy) wants is a key – a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a box that holds a priceless gift. A golden thread, presented to her at godfather Drosselmeyer’s (Morgan Freeman) annual holiday party, leads her to the coveted key””which promptly disappears into a strange and mysterious parallel world. It’s there that Clara encounters a soldier named Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight), a gang of mice and the regents who preside over three Realms: Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers and Land of Sweets. Clara and Phillip must brave the ominous Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren), to retrieve Clara’s key and hopefully return harmony to the unstable world. Starring Keira Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy, Disney’s new holiday feature film “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” is directed by Lasse Hallström and Joe Johnston, and inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s classic tale.
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms opens in theaters on November 2, 2018.
