CBS Films released a new trailer for At Eternity’s Gate this week. The film stars three-time Academy Award nominee Willem Dafoe as one of the most renowned painters ever to walk this planet, Vincent van Gogh. Also starring is Rupert Friend as Vincent’s brother Theo van Gogh, Oscar Isaac, Mads Mikkelsen, Emmanuelle Seigner, and Mathieu Amalric.
The movie, which is directed by Oscar nominee Julian Schnabel (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Before Night Falls, Basquiat), is told based on a variety of things, from letters written by Vincent van Gogh himself to rumors about his life. You can read a little bit more about At Eternity’s Gate and check out the trailer and a poster below.
ABOUT:
Julian Schnabel’s At Eternity’s Gate is a journey inside the world and mind of a person who, despite skepticism, ridicule and illness, created some of the world’s most beloved and stunning works of art. This is not a forensic biography, but rather scenes based on Vincent van Gogh’s (Academy Award® Nominee Willem Dafoe) letters, common agreement about events in his life that present as facts, hearsay, and moments that are just plain invented.
Schnabel also co-wrote the screenplay for the movie along with Oscar winner Jean-Claude Carrière, whose credits include The Unbearable Lightness of Being, The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie, and Birth.
The title of the film comes from an oil painting van Gogh did called Sorrowing Old Man (At Eternity’s Gate), which he completed in the year 1890 just months before his death.
At Eternity’s Gate is set to be released in theaters a couple of months from now on November 16th.
