Disney has released the newest trailer for Rob Marshall‘s Mary Poppins Returns starring Emily Blunt as the title character who returns to help the Banks’ family in their time of need. The film is a follow-up to the 1964 original which was released almost 54 years ago. And if you thought that production for that was Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, wait until you see this new trailer.
Everything about this film just pops right out of the screen. The colors are vibrant and warm, while the music and dance are comforting and fun. Why, it’s almost like they want to stay true to the spirit of the original film as it manages to blend in animation and live-action together seamlessly. And since it’s 2018, the production looks bigger and more grand.
This is certainly a huge step away from Marshall’s darker Disney musical effort, an adaptation of Into The Woods. Here, we have something more inviting. The film will also feature all new original songs with music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman. The screenplay is by David Magee and the screen story is by Magee & Rob Marshall & John DeLuca based upon the Mary Poppins Stories by PL Travers.
Honestly, the film looks like it couldn’t come at a more perfect time. Which seems fitting since the character does seemingly appear when people need her the most. I honestly cannot wait to see the whole thing. It just looks like pure magic.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
