Biopics can cover a wide range of the subject ranging from a specific time that defined them to their entire life. In Rocketman, Taron Egerton will portray Elton John in a musical fantasy that is “based on a true fantasy.” Of course, there will be musical numbers in it, but based on the trailer there will be so much more to it.
Check out the teaser trailer here below.
We always knew that Egerton could sing. In fact, he used those talents in the animated film Sing, where he voiced a soulful gorilla who belted out a cover of, all things, Elton John’s “I’m Still Standing.” While musical biopics can be a bit tiresome, the musical fantasy aspect fascinates me. Director Dexter Fletcher takes a completely different approach to the traditional biopics. Fans and backup dancers rising off the ground. People dancing in the streets. All of the snappy costumes. Everything you could ask for in a musical.
Now it will be interesting to see if Egerton could hold the audience’s interest for the entire film. The actor does have a talent for singing, but can he personify a one-of-a-kind personality like Elton John? We will just have to wait and see. It’s hard to gauge any of that when the trailer only runs at a minute in length.
Here is the very brief plot synopsis:
ROCKETMAN is an epic musical fantasy about the uncensored human story of Sir Elton John’s breakthrough years, starring Taron Egerton, Jamie Bell, Richard Madden and Bryce Dallas Howard.
Jamie Bell, Richard Madden, and Bryce Dallas Howard also star.
Paramount has scheduled Rocketman for a May 31, 2019 release.
