‘Aquaman’ Extended Look: Jason Momoa Finds Out What It Takes To Be Greater Than A King

Warner Bros. released an extended look at James Wan‘s Aquaman. Based on the DC hero of the same name, the film finds Arthur Curry (Jason Momoa) having to save the world from an underwater threat while also struggling to find his identity as a surface dweller and an Atlantean. While the film may not be out for a few more months, the new extended video gives us a look at all the action and exposition of the film, which will make all the previous films look like tiny fish. Check out the 5-minute video here below.

The film is really going out of its way to make Aquaman the ultimate bro hero. All brawn and no brain, Arthur is one who does “his best thinking when he’s not thinking at all.” But he clearly knows this and is not ashamed of that face. That being said, Aquaman looks awesome. That tracking shot of Mera (Amber Heard) trying to outrun her pursuer on the rooftops and then transitioning to a fight between Black Manta and Aquaman was just awesome. If this film has a lot of that, then I am sold.

Of course, Aquaman isn’t exactly the most appealing character, so Wan really had his work cut out for him making him very interesting. And while he character was first established in Justice League, it appears that this film will have nothing to do with any of that or even bother to try to build itself to future films. Of course, that is just speculation on my part. But if it worked for Wonder Woman, then might as well use that formula on Aquaman.

It will be interesting to see how the globe-trotting Indiana Jones-esque feel will coalesce with the comic book aspects of the film. There’s no doubt that myth and legend plays a huge part in Atlantis, and the war upon the surface is a driving force for the story. But can those two things work hand in hand? We will just have to wait and see.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

From Warner Bros. Pictures and director James Wan comes an action-packed adventure that spans the vast, visually breathtaking underwater world of the seven seas, “Aquaman,” starring Jason Momoa in the title role. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime””one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be”¦a king.

Aquaman also stars Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Nicole Kidman.

Warner Bros. has scheduled Aquaman for a December 21, 2018 release.
