Last week The Shape of Water director Guillermo del Toro shared some thoughts on his upcoming stop-motion animated take on Pinocchio.
But as an added bonus, del Toro also confirmed something that had been rumored: he’s producing an English-language remake of the recent Argentine horror flick Terrified for Fox Searchlight.
You can find more info below along with a trailer if you’re unfamiliar with the movie.
Here’s a brief description of the original Terrified, which was directed by Demian Rugna and starred Maxi Ghione, Norberto Amadeo Gonzalo, Elvira Onetto, George Lewis, and AgustÃn Rittano:
On an ordinary suburban street in Buenos Aires, voices are heard from kitchen sinks. Bodies are levitating. Evil is here. It is up to a doctor, her colleague, and an ex-cop to get to the bottom of this neighborhood nightmare. Demian Rugna’s must-see TERRIFIED is one of the scariest movies of 2018.
Rugna isn’t about to let someone else remake his movie, either. He’s going to direct the remake himself. This is great news, as anyone who saw what happened when they remade [REC] will tell you. Hopefully Rugna returning paired with del Toro’s guidance will lead to very good things.
Though still just as entertaining as always, there aren’t many horror flicks that scare me these days. The last one to really blindside me was the aforementioned [REC]. But there have been a few movies which managed to creep me out over the years. Terrified is one of them.
The movie does creepy really darn well. And while it does have some jump scares—something I normally despise—they too were done pretty well and I’ll admit they got me a couple of times. Well played, Argentina.
If you haven’t seen Terrified, it’s available to watch on Shudder right now.
