It has been two years since Carrie Fisher passed away, and many fans of hers and her Star Wars legacy are still reeling after the loss. But none more than her daughter, Billie Lourd. Though Fisher is a fixture within the Star Wars universe, her daughter followed in her mother’s footsteps by joining her in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. And now, to honor the memory of her mother, Lourd has released a touching tribute in the form of a video of herself singing Jackson Brown’s “These Days,” which happens to be one of her mother’s favorite songs. Check it out here below.
The video, which was posted on Lourd’s official Instagram account, shows the young actress playing a piano rendition of Brown’s “These Days.” That video was also paired with a very touching caption that reads:
“It has been two years since my Momby’s death and I still don’t know what the “˜right’ thing to do on a death anniversary is (I’m sure a lot of you feel the same way about your loved ones). So I decided to do something a little vulnerable for me, but something we both loved to do together – sing. This is the piano her father gave her and this was one of her favorite songs. And as the song says, we must “˜keep on moving.’ I’ve found that what keeps me moving is doing things that make me happy, working hard on the things that I’m passionate about and surrounding myself with people I love and making them smile. I hope this encourages anyone feeling a little low or lost to “˜keep on moving.’ As my Momby once said, “˜take your broken heart and turn it into art’ – whatever that art may be for you.”
While many of us know Fisher to be a princess and general, she was also a singer, comedian, and writer. And though she had her personal demons, she used her talents and her family to overcome the darkness. So it seems fitting that Lourd would cover one of her late mother’s favorite songs. Especially when the song emphasizes: “I’ll keep on moving, moving on.”
