It won’t be long until we finally get to see the X-Men and Fantastic Four finally play in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thanks to Disney acquiring Fox Entertainment last year, we will finally get to see the two interact with The Avengers and Spider-Man. While the deal is expected to close near the end of this month, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige is already talking about when we could possibly see either of these properties in the MCU.
More on what he had to say below.
Speaking to Variety’s Playback podcast, Feige says he hasn’t been given the green light to start developing projects involving the X-Men or Fantastic Four yet. However, as soon as the deal is finalized, he assures listeners (and fans) that they will be hitting the pavement. Here’s what he had to say:
“We’ve been told it’s looking very, very good and could happen in the first six months of next year. The notion of the characters coming back is great. It’s nice when a company that created all these characters can have access to all those characters. It’s unusual not to. But in terms of actually thinking about it and actually planning things, we haven’t started that yet.”
That seems to make sense. Considering that these properties don’t truly belong to them yet, it wouldn’t make sense for them to develop anything. That would just be a waste of time. However, once the deal is finalized, Marvel Studios will jump right into incorporating the X-Men and Fantastic Four into the MCU. Just how that is going to happen is still unclear.
But at least we know it’s going to happen. For a long time, Feige stayed vague about the details about working in the two properties into the MCU. Of course, it remains to be seen if he will use any of the existing characters from the films in it. Although, some would argue it would be better off rebooting the X-Men franchise considering its very convoluted timeline.
Then there’s the matter about the existing contracts that are currently set in place. Not only that but what about the other titles that are awaiting release or are currently under development like Dark Phoenix, The New Mutants, and the X-Force film. How will these projects be affected by the deal between Fox and Disney?
So while those details aren’t exactly clear, it looks like Feige is ready to finally be able to use these characters in the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe.
