In May of last year Zombieland and Deadpool writer Paul Wernick said that he hoped that the long-awaited sequel Zombieland 2 would finally be released in 2019, the 10th anniversary of the original movie’s release. The sequel was then confirmed, with original stars Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin all returning. Joining them is the previously cast Zoey Deutch and Avan Jogia, and now Rosario Dawson, who signed on this week.
Now the first poster for the sequel has been released…sort of. Instead of simply releasing a poster, the movie did the popular 10 Year Challenge you’ve seen everyone on the ‘net doing lately. The four main stars re-created a poster for the original, 10 years later. The poster also confirms that the sequel’s title will be Zombieland: Double Tap. You can check it out below.
The official Zombieland Twitter account came back from the dead for the first time in nearly three years to share the 10 Year Challenge poster.
Zombieland: Double Tap will see the characters traveling from the White House and through the heartland. The story will see the four main characters dealing with some new kinds of zombies, who have evolved over the course of a decade, on their journey. They’ll also have to deal with something else that’s always a threat in a post-apocalyptic setting: other human survivors they cross paths with. Not to mention the growing pains their little makeshift family still deals with after all this time.
The screenplay was once again written by Wernick and Rhett Reese, and original director Reuben Fleischer returns for the sequel after helming last year’s Venom.
Zombieland: Double Tap is set to be released in theaters on October 11th, almost exactly 10 years after the original was released.
