Last December, at the New York City Horror Film Festival I met filmmaker Laura Kulik, and experienced her short film The Last Seance. The film runs 15 minutes, but packs a punch, reminiscent of Insidious and Ouija 2: Origin of Evil. Alisa Levinson is Anna, a young girl who’s been connected the other side since youth and Lauren Finley is Grace, her sister using her sister’s abilities to run scams on grieving families. That is until Anna comes face to face with something real and sinister.
Written and directed by Kulik, the film has appeared at multiple film festivals and has received many nominations and festival honors including Audience Choice at National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY) Best Production Design at Film Outside the Frame. Now The Last Seance will be premiering on Alter this May.
Alter is a horror brand that describes itself as a service that “reaches across all platforms to provide content from provocative and innovative minds” and “explore the human condition through warped and uncanny perspectives.” Their page contains multiple horror short films. The also have a YouTube channel which has been viewed over 3 million times.
Since I started attending film festivals, horror shorts have become some of my favorite films. The Last Seance is excellent and you should definitely seek it out this May at WatchAlter.com.
