Alan Tudyk is considered a good luck charm to Walt Disney Studios, having appeared and voiced multiple characters in different Disney properties from Walt Disney Animation Studios, Pixar, and Lucasfilm.
Now the actor will be taking his voice talents to a different part of Disney, their live-action department. According to new reports, Tudyk will be voicing Iago in director Guy Ritchie‘s live-action adaptation of Aladdin. More on the report below.
THR was the first to report on the news. Tudyk is a versatile voice actor having voiced a variety of characters from scheming royalty in Frozen, a devious businessmen in Big Hero Six, a dangerous arcade sprite in Wreck-It Ralph, a hungry dinosaur in The Good Dinosaur, a dirty weasel in Zootopia, a cynical droid in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, a crazy chicken in Moana, and a literal egghead in Ralph Breaks The Internet. He replaces Gilbert Gottfried, who voiced Iago in the original animated film.
Tudyk joins Mena Massoud, who plays the title character; Naomi Scott, who plays Princess Jasmine; Will Smith, who plays the Genie; and Marwan Kenzari, who will play Jafar. Navid Negahban, Nasim Pedrad, and Billy Magnussen also star.
Iago can be best described as a greedy and manipulative red macaw with blue-tipped wings. This cunning and mischievous bird could perfectly mimic anyone’s voice and uses that skill to his advantage in order to trick or distract others.
Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
