Five new actors have joined Spike Lee‘s next project Da 5 Bloods, rounding out the cast for the Netflix production. The movie follows a group of Vietnam War veterans who return to Vietnam.
The five new actors who have signed on to the feature are Clarke Peters (The Wire and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri), Isiah Whitlock Jr. (The Wire, Cedar Rapids), Norm Lewis (Sex and the City 2, Scandal), Mélanie Thierry (The Zero Theorem, Babylon A.D.), and Jasper Pääkkönen (Vikings, Frozen Land).
The new cast members join previously announced cast including Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther, 42), Delroy Lindo (Malcolm X, Ransom), Jean Reno (Léon: The Professional, The Da Vinci Code), Jonathan Majors (Hostiles, White Boy Rick), and Paul Walter Hauser (I, Tonya and Super Troopers 2).
Pääkkönen, Hauser, and Whitlock Jr. all also starred in Lee’s last film, BlacKkKlansman, which won Lee an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Here’s the official logline for the movie:
From Academy Award® Winner Spike Lee comes a new joint: the story of four African American vets who return to Vietnam. Searching for the remains of their fallen squad leader (Chadwick Boseman) and the promise of buried treasure, our heroes battle forces of man and nature – while confronted by the lasting ravages of the immorality of the Vietnam War.
Kevin Willmott (Chi-Raq, C.S.A.: The Confederate States of America), who was another one of the writers who won an Oscar for writing BlacKkKlansman, penned the screenplay for Da 5 Bloods with Lee from an earlier draft written by Paul De Meo and Danny Bilson (The Rocketeer, The Flash [1991]). Matthew Billingsly also did a rewrite on the script.
Lee also produces along with Lloyd Levin (Hellboy franchise, Watchmen), Beatriz Levin, and Jon Kilik (The Hunger Games franchise, Inside Man).
The cinematographer is Newton Thomas Sigel (Bohemian Rhapsody, Drive).
Da 5 Bloods is the fourth time that Lee has worked with Netflix, following She’s Gotta Have It, the one-man show Rodney King, and the upcoming See You Yesterday.
No release window has been announced yet.
