Disney has released 11 new posters for director Jon Favreau‘s retelling of The Lion King. The film features the voices of Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, Alfre Woodard as Sarabi, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, Billy Eichner as Timon, John Kani as Rafiki, John Oliver as Zazu, JD McCrary as young Simba, and Shahadi Wright Joseph as young Nala. The new posters feature each of these characters.
Based on the 1994 animated film of the same name, pioneering filmmaking techniques have been used to bring the iconic characters to the big screen in a whole new way. In addition to the new posters, Disney has also released a special preview of the upcoming film that highlights all of the visual effects that are used to bring these animals to life. Favreau is no stranger to using this highly advanced photorealistic technology to bring these animals to life. We saw him use similar technologies and techniques in The Jungle Book, which ended up winning the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects back in 2017.
Here’s the official plot synopsis:
Disney’s “The Lion King, directed by Jon Favreau (“The Jungle Book”), journeys to the African savanna where a future king is born. Simba idolizes his father, King Mufasa, and takes to heart his own royal destiny. But not everyone in the kingdom celebrates the new cub’s arrival. Scar, Mufasa’s brother””and former heir to the throne””has plans of his own. The battle for Pride Rock is ravaged with betrayal, tragedy and drama, ultimately resulting in Simba’s exile. With help from a curious pair of newfound friends, Simba will have to figure out how to grow up and take back what is rightfully his.
The film also features the voice talents of Florence Kasumba, Eric André, and Keegan-Michael Key.
