We’ve all played the game of Hide and Seek at some point during our childhood. The game where a group of people hide and one person seeks. Well, now, it has become the premise of a movie called Ready or Not. But before you go writing it off, it might interest you that the game in this movie is bloody, where the person hiding, has to hide for their lives or die trying. Now, you may think a bloody and twisted take on a harmless game is unoriginal, but it gets a little more fun when there are mishaps, misfortunes, and other blunders that take place. Check out the trailer here below.
I was almost ready place this film in the “wait for it to come out on Blu-ray” list, but I have to say, I found myself laughing when the game of hide and seek turns out to be more violent and accident prone. But the balance of the horror and thriller tones with the comedic mishaps makes it look like it is worth a watch. We will just have to wait and see. Plus the cast isn’t half bad either.
In the film, a young bride (Samara Weaving) marries into her new husband’s (Mark O’Brien) rich, eccentric family (Adam Brody, Henry Czerny, Andie MacDowell). As a part of the marriage ceremonies, the family she weds into plays a friendly game. Sounds completely harmless to her, until she sees how seriously this family takes the game when they arm themselves with whatever weapon, no matter how modern or archaic, they could find. To make matters worse, there seems to be something far more nefarious underneath it all than just a deadly game of hide and seek.
Here’s the official synopsis:
Ready or Not follows a young bride (Samara Weaving) as she joins her new husband’s (Mark O’Brien) rich, eccentric family (Adam Brody, Henry Czerny, Andie MacDowell) in a time-honored tradition that turns into a lethal game with everyone fighting for their survival.
Mark O’Brien, Melanie Scrofano, Nicky Guadagni, Elyse Levesque, Kristian Bruun, Ethan Tavares, and John Ralston also star.
Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, using a script written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy, Ready Or Not opens in theaters on August 23, 2019.
