We Sold Our Souls review

We Sold Our Souls
Hardcover | Paperback | Kindle | Audiobook
By Grady Hendrix
Publisher: Quirk Books
Paperback Release date: June 25, 2019

Kris Pulaski has a dead end life, but once upon a time she felt alive crunching chords with her yellowing calloused hands in front of anyone who would listen. But that was a long time ago, before her singer sold them out and rocketed to fame, leaving the rest of the band, Dürt Würk, in the dust.

Years later, in her dead end Best Western, after mopping up piss, she was heading home and was hit with a horrible surprise. Said singer was about to embark on his farewell tour, and with it brought up all the rage and anguish that long ago betrayal had created.

More below on the paperback edition of We Sold Our Souls by Grady Hendrix.

But there’s more. Singer Terry did not just sell out, he sold the band’s… souls. It’s up to Kris to get the rest of the band back together and fight. The power of metal is strong.

What a fun book! The action does not stop and the crazy situations during Kris’s journey are just bananas. She can’t trust anyone.

The paperback cover is a clever tribute to Rolling Stone magazine, compelling one to open and read all the articles. Once open, I could not put it down. The chapters are titles of metal albums, which is a nice touch. Metal fans and book fans alike will love this novel.

Grady Hendrix is not afraid of descriptive language, making us uncomfortable with our own imaginations.

His left eye was a hole leaking white jelly. His scalp hung in a flap against the side of his face, exposing half a dome of raw bone.

What?!? There was so much action and not a little gore, but Kris was the heartbeat of the story. She is the hopeful in all of us, screaming for another shot and more answers to why. I loved this book so much as I do all Hendrix novels. Keep em coming, Grady.
