Studios don’t need to be in Hall H at the San Diego Comic-Con to make big news. Sometimes, all it takes is a simple announcement. Take Universal Pictures, for example. They announced today the titles and release dates for the two follow-ups to last year’s Halloween, the semi-reboot/sequel to the 1978 iconic slasher film of the same name.

Horror master John Carpenter posted to Twitter, “The saga of Michael Myers and Laurie Strode isn’t over” along with the announcement video, which you can watch here below.

October 26, 2020 will see the release of a new film that unfortunately won’t be called Halloween H2020*, but rather Halloween Kills, with the third film, Halloween Ends, hitting theaters on October 15, 2021.

The Halloween Ends title hints at the saga coming to a close. Of course, it’s likely there will be other reboots, which could be followed up by other sequels. But the last installment for this new Halloween trilogy seems to hint at the end for the story that David Gordon Green and Danny McBride started telling in last year’s film, which raked in an impressive $250+ million worldwide on a $10 million budget, becoming the highest-grossing installment the popular horror franchise.

Jason Blum, whose Blumhouse Productions produces the new Halloween films, posted to Twitter that, “Yes, the gang is ALL back” including star Jamie Lee Curtis, Green, McBride, and John Carpenter.

Halloween Kills will be written by Green, McBride, and Scott Teems, based on characters created by John Carpenter and Debra Hill. Green returns to the director’s chair for the second installment of this trilogy. While no plot description has been released, it is safe to say that it will continue the ongoing fight between Michael Myers and Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis).

Then there’s Halloween Ends, which is presumably the end of this trilogy. Green and McBride also return to write the script, along with Paul Brad Logan and Chris Bernier. Green will also return to direct. Both films will be produced by Malek Akkad, Jason Blum, and Bill Block. John Carpenter, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jeanette Volturno, Couper Samuelson, Danny McBride, David Gordon Green, and Ryan Freimann will executive produce. Ryan Turek is overseeing the projects for Blumhouse.

No other cast has been formally announced yet. But that should all change in the coming weeks. Until then, stay tuned.

Here’s the announcement video:
